The shift from traditional PR to Blogging
Originally, blogging was a mere pass-time for new mums on maternity leave, however increasingly, blogging has become a prominent a media outlet as newspapers, if not more.
If blogging has become greater in its reach, prominence and effect, should PRs be offering blogging as a service alongside press releases?
Even though blog-writing has become central in the world of digital communications, interestingly it is the not the first consideration for companies wanting to increase their online reputation.
Public Relations is about communicating a story, building a brand and creating a personality for a person or company. Blogs have become effective tools in doing this, so it has become essential for PRs to utilise it.
Blogging can instantly inspire brand-loyalty, build new audiences and engage disenchanted customers with any brand that may be suffering and will assist the development of a company in the long term.
Digital Publishing is the way forward, and any company who chooses not to blog will lose out to their competition. Blogging is a direct way for brands to publicise their own content in an efficient and cost-effective way.
Creating bespoke blogs allows for more control over a brand’s narrative, and the culture it communicates. It helps to enhance SEO by using key words and an online profile almost immediately. The use of imagery and videos allows readers and followers to be viewers also, which allows for bite-size content that’s more easily palatable which in turn expands your audience.
When looking for content for your blog, you need to act like a journalist, looking for newsworthy stories that relate to your brand, just like regular press releases you can notify your audience with your new products and services whilst jumping on the back of hot topics in the news so you can ride the wave of popularity and position yourself as a thought leader. Blogging is quick, direct, carefully curated and effective. It would be foolish for any company not to take advantage of the new blogging age and stick solely to traditional PR.
