5 Ways to work Frieze like a PR Pro

The 11th edition of the Frieze Art Fair is in town, the international contemporary art fair that takes place every October in London. Here at Curzon we realise how important fairs such as these are for networking. So follow our 5 step guide on how to work Frieze like a PR Pro.

Be informed and have an opinion

Even if you don’t know too much about art it’s important that you can form your own opinion. So study, you don’t want to have stage fright when being asked about Charles Saatchi’s latest acquisitions or Marina Abrahimovic’s performance.

Know your target market

Research the art scene. Who would be interesting to meet? Do some research and make a list of people you want to meet. Who they are? What’s their name? Where do they work at? Just pick some basic information that will help you while trying to start a conversation with them.

Make a plan of attack

It’s important to be at the right place at the right time.  Once you have decided who you want to meet and you have formed a solid opinion, you research the relevant places to visit. Which exhibitions will be attracting the people you want to meet? Where will your target market go after each exhibition? Discover the hot spots and be there. Make a list and follow it, you don’t want to miss a thing.

Keep your phone in your pocket

Social Media is good for networking but staring at your phone screen all day is rude and antisocial. Take pictures, tweet and intereact with others online but be sharp-eyed and open. Don’t forget that you are there to forge some real relationships and connections.

Ask questions

Let’s face it. You are not an art expert so don’t pretend to be one. Be humble and listen, people enjoy explaining themselves and it’s a great opportunity for you to learn from the best and make these new connections.
