Cairo, Egypt – 10th of October, 2019: Narrative Summit, Egypt’s first international PR forum, returns for its 4th edition in November as a part of the Arab Sustainable Development Week (ASDW) featuring a line-up of inspiring and innovative international and local figures including Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, World Bank Senior Vice President.

The ASDW is organized annually by the League of Arab States in Cairo under the auspices of H.E. Abdelfattah El Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt. This year, the League of Arab States chose the Narrative Summit to participate in the ASDW which will be held in partnership with the Ministry of Planning, Monitoring and Administrative Reform, the World Bank, the United Nations Development Program and the European Union. The week will be taking place from the 3rd to the 6th of November with the Narrative Summit taking place on the 4th.

The League of Arab States has lent special attention to the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals to ensure that government policymakers adopt it as part of the national development strategy. The ASDW targets forging effective partnerships between governments, the private sector, and civil society to help governments develop sustainability for the region and implement the 2030 agenda through strategic dialogue that discusses and explores methods to implement their plans in the Arab region within a supportive international climate. This year’s theme is “Integrated Partnership for a Sustainable Future”.

It is under this theme that the Narrative Summit will be bringing together influential industry experts and opinion leaders to create a forum for innovative thought leadership and a platform for the most prominent practitioners and thinkers in their fields to address one of the most pressing issues of our time in hopes that it will inspire others to move to action. The forum will span different industries including tourism, finance, art, and more all debating and showcasing the latest innovations moving forward in the path towards sustainable development.

This year, the Narrative Summit will be hosting a stellar line up of local and international speakers including Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, World Bank Senior Vice President, Gordon Tredgold, Strategic Expert, Dr. Salah Hassan, Professor of Brand Management at George Washington University, Mariam Farag, Head of Corporate Responsibility and Social Impact at MBC Group, Sarah Gallo, Tourism Marketing Expert, Nadine Abdel Ghaffar, Founder of Art d ‘Egypte, Farzana Baduel, CEO of Curzon PR and Public Relations Specialist at the University of Oxford, among others.

“Since its inception in 2016, the Narrative Summit has been a pioneering partner in realizing the vision of the Egyptian state in the development process, through coordination of partnerships and connections between different bodies inside and outside Egypt. This is what encouraged the League of Arab States to select us to convene on the second day of the Arab Sustainable Development Week,” said Lamia Kamel, CEO of multi-disciplinary communications firm CC Plus and Founder of Narrative Summit.

“Amid increasing international efforts to achieve the sustainable development goals, it was essential that the Narrative Summit collaborate and align with the League of Arab States to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. During the three previous editions of the summit, we succeeded in strengthening the role of individuals by hosting Arab and international ambassadors and change-makers. We presented their innovative knowledge and inspiring efforts that have improved services in all sectors – including education, health, tourism – thus paving the way for a better and sustainable future for the coming generations,” she added.

During its third edition held in October 2018, under the auspices of the Council of Ministers, Narrative Summit presented a number of recommendations, one of which was the establishment of numerous specialized forums on a periodic basis, which has already taken place. One of these forums was Narrative Disruptors, held last April under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Ministry for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs. It tackled digital transformation and financial inclusion in Egypt. During the summit, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Amr Talaat outlined the measures taken by the Egyptian government to achieve digital transformation across all sectors. Ambassador Nabila Makram, the Minister of Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, also spoke about the course of action taken by the state to connect Egyptians living abroad to their homeland.

This year’s summit will examine the challenges and opportunities facing the future of the Arab region against the backdrop of an international climate placing a heavy focus on sustainable development. It will encourage others to participate in this worldwide dialogue and allow them to be inspired by the ground-breaking changes that are taking place in our world.

Lamia Kamel, CEO of CC Plus and Founder of Narrative Summit, said: “This year, we are joining forces with the League of Arab States to push the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.”
