On Tuesday 27th June, the third edition of Art Bahrain Across Borders (ArtBAB) had its London launch at The Arts Club in Mayfair, held in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Fawaz bin Mohammed al Khalifa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Court of St. James’s.
There was a strong turnout with over 60 guests ranging from gallerists and curators, the art press, artists and cultural institutions.
David Hawkins, Head of Outreach for the ArtBAB, gave an introduction to Bahrain’s international art fair.
He then welcomed Alistair Hicks, Co-Curator at ArtBAB, to present ‘Floating Worlds’ – the non-commercial element to the fair which in the second edition featured thirty two 6-metre video screens featuring work by leading international artists such as Gillian Wearing and Cornelia Parker.
Cordelia de Freitas, Director at The Maddox Gallery, Mayfair spoke about the gallery’s participation in the fair in 2017 – well organised, interested collectors and high sales. Maddox Gallery is returning in 2018.
Founder and Fair Director Kaneka Subberwal thanked attendees and encouraged them to participate in ArtBAB 2018 and join her in the journey to bridge the kingdom to the international art market whilst untapping a new collector base that exists in the Kingdom.
A number of events under the Bahraini Artists Across Borders (BAAB) umbrella will be held in London and India in the Autumn and Winter to further profile Bahraini art and culture and promote the ArtBAB fair.
